Canara Bank is one of the largest public sector banks in India, founded in July 1906 in Mangalore, Karnataka, by a group of local entrepreneurs led by Ammembal Subba Rao Pai. Originally established as Canara Bank Hindu Permanent Fund, it commenced operations with a focus on community banking and financial inclusion. Nationalised by the Government of India on 19 July 1969, the bank has grown into a national banking institution with over 9,700 branches and more than 13,000 ATMs across India.
