Sleeman Breweries is a Canadian brewery founded by John Warren Sleeman in 1988 in Guelph, Ontario, reviving a family legacy that dates back to 1834. The original Sleeman brewery was established by John H. Sleeman in 1851, but the family lost its brewing license for 50 years after a 1933 bootlegging conviction. In 1984, John W. Sleeman rediscovered his heritage through a leather-bound recipe book and an original clear bottle given by his aunt, sparking the brewery's rebirth. The iconic transparent bottle became the visual anchor for the brand's philosophy of honesty, captured by the enduring slogan "Nothing to hide." From its signature Cream Ale to an expansive portfolio including Unibroue and Okanagan Spring, Sleeman grew into Canada's third-largest brewer before being acquired by Japan's Sapporo in 2006.
