DeWalt was founded in 1923 by Raymond E. DeWalt in Leola, Pennsylvania, with the invention of the first radial arm saw—a machine that transformed woodworking efficiency. In 1949, the company was reorganised as DeWalt Inc., and in 1960 it was sold to Black & Decker. After a period of dormancy, Black & Decker revived the DeWalt brand in 1992 as a premium professional power tool line to compete with Makita and Milwaukee. The iconic yellow-and-black colour scheme was introduced in 1992, and the brand quickly became synonymous with jobsite durability. In 2010, Stanley Black & Decker was formed, and DeWalt remains its flagship professional tool brand.
