Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is a government-owned crude oil and natural gas corporation under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. Founded on 14 August 1956, the company was established to develop India's hydrocarbon sector in the post-independence era, evolving from a government department into a Maharatna public sector undertaking. Today, ONGC is India's largest oil and gas exploration and production company, contributing approximately 71% of the nation's domestic crude oil production and 84% of its natural gas output.
