Red Robin traces its origins to the 1940s as Sam's Tavern near the University of Washington in Seattle, where owner Sam loved singing "When the Red, Red Robin (Comes Bob, Bobbin' Along)" so much that he renamed his tavern Sam's Red Robin. In 1969, local restaurateur Gerry Kingen acquired the tavern, dropped "Sam's," and transformed it into a gourmet burger destination. The chain grew from 22 locations in 1983 to over 175 across the U.S. and Canada by 1986, and today operates nearly 500 restaurants.

The brand's core products are casual dining experiences centred on gourmet burgers, bottomless steak fries, onion rings, and hand-spun milkshakes, alongside a selection of brews. Its menu has expanded to include wraps, salads, and signature desserts like the Mountain High Mudd Pie.

Red Robin became famous for the catchy slogan "Red Robin... YUMMM!" which has served as the brand's memorable mnemonic for decades. More recently, the company embraced the mission to "Make memorable moments of connection over craveable burgers," while launching value offerings like the Big YUMMM Deals. This evolution reflects a journey from a neighbourhood tavern to a national icon of fun, family-friendly dining.
