Originally launched as AutoShack, the company rebranded to AutoZone in 1987 after a trademark dispute with RadioShack. The brand's ethos was crystallized in 1985 with the coinage "wittdtjr"—"what it takes to do the job right"—later evolving into the widely recognized "Get in the Zone."
