Vestas Wind Systems A/S was founded in 1945 by Peder F. Hansen in Lem, Denmark, initially as a manufacturer of household appliances and agricultural equipment. In 1979, the company pivoted to wind turbine production, delivering its first commercial turbine to a Danish power company. The 1980s saw rapid expansion across Europe and North America, and in 1986 Vestas went public on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
