Taylor Woodrow was founded in 1921 by 16-year-old Frank Taylor in Blackpool, who borrowed his uncle Jack Woodrow's name to register the company. Beginning with just two houses, it grew into one of Britain's largest construction firms. In the 1930s, the company diversified into general construction, and during World War II it built military camps, airfields, and the Mulberry Harbour for the D-Day landings.

The brand's core products were residential construction, commercial building, and large-scale infrastructure engineering. Major post-war projects included Hinkley Point A, Sizewell A, Heathrow Terminus, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Channel Tunnel. The company expanded through the 2001 acquisition of Bryant Group and the 2003 purchase of Wilson Connolly, before merging with George Wimpey in 2007.

From modest origins, Taylor Woodrow became synonymous with British construction excellence, embodied by its iconic "teamwork" logo of four men in a tug-of-war. Though the construction arm was acquired by Vinci in 2008, the brand's legacy endures as a cornerstone of Britain's built environment.
