LG Corporation is a South Korean multinational conglomerate born from the merger of two pioneering companies. Founded in 1947 as Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Corp.—later known as Lucky—it produced Korea's first cosmetics and plastics. In 1958, the group established GoldStar Co. Ltd., the nation's first electronics company, which introduced Korea's first radio, television, and refrigerator. The two entities merged in 1983 to form Lucky-Goldstar, but the name struggled internationally. In 1995, under the leadership of Koo Bon-moo, the company rebranded as LG and launched the iconic slogan "Life's Good," signalling a shift from budget perception to global quality. Today, LG operates through subsidiaries including LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Display, and LG Energy Solution, spanning consumer electronics, home appliances, chemicals, and batteries. Guided by the jeong-do philosophy of ethical management, it remains a symbol of Korean industrial ambition and the enduring belief that innovation should make life genuinely better.
