Škoda Auto is a Czech automobile manufacturer founded in 1895 as Laurin & Klement by mechanic Václav Laurin and bookseller Václav Klement in Mladá Boleslav. Initially producing bicycles and motorcycles, the company manufactured its first automobile, the Voiturette A, in 1905. Following a 1925 merger with the industrial Škoda Works, the brand became Czechoslovakia’s market leader by 1936. After decades of state ownership, Škoda joined the Volkswagen Group in 1991, leveraging German engineering to modernise its portfolio. Today it offers a comprehensive range including the Octavia, Superb, Fabia, Scala, and Kamiq, alongside the electric ENYAQ iV and the high-performance RS line. With approximately 40,000 employees worldwide and production across the Czech Republic, China, India, Slovakia, and Russia, the company delivers nearly one million vehicles annually to over 100 markets.

Brand messaging has evolved from the founders’ guiding principle Only our best is good enough for our customers to the engineering-led promise Simply Clever, first articulated at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show and now encompassing more than sixty practical innovations. In 2018, the campaign For Whatever Drives You introduced a more emotional dimension, while the design philosophy shifted toward Simply Surprising, blending crystalline aesthetics with functional ingenuity.
