Asian Paints Ltd was founded on 1 February 1942 by four friends—Champaklal Choksey, Chimanlal Choksi, Suryakant Dani, and Arvind Vakil—in Mumbai, India. Initially a small paint dealership, the company began manufacturing in 1945 and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1965. In 1967, it became India's largest paint company by overtaking Shalimar Paints, and in 1973 it launched the iconic Tractor emulsion brand. The 1980s saw the debut of the memorable "Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai" ("Every home says something") campaign, which became a cultural touchstone. In 1995, the company acquired Berger International to enter the Caribbean market, and in 2002 it acquired Snowcem Paints in Nepal. In 2013, it acquired Ess Ess Bathroom Products, expanding into home décor and bath fittings. Today, headquartered in Mumbai, Asian Paints operates in over 15 countries and is India's largest and Asia's third-largest paint company by revenue.

The brand's core products are paints and coatings solutions, including decorative paints, industrial coatings, automotive finishes, and waterproofing solutions. Its portfolio features iconic brands such as Tractor, Apex, Ultima, Royale, and Apcolite, alongside the Asian Paints Colour World tinting system offering over 2,200 shades. The company also offers home décor and interior design services through Beautiful Homes.
