Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is a major international airport located in Broward County, Florida, approximately three miles southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 21 miles north of Miami. Originally established as Merle Fogg Field on 1 May 1929, it became Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Station during World War II before Broward County assumed control in 1948. The airport introduced its first scheduled airline service in 1956 and has since grown into one of the busiest airports in the United States. In 2024, it ranked as the 18th busiest U.S. airport overall and 13th for international traffic, serving approximately 32.2 million passengers in 2025 across 97 domestic and 55 international destinations.
