Asahi Group Holdings traces its origins to 1889, when Komakichi Torii founded the Osaka Beer Brewing Company with the vision of creating authentic Japanese beer. In 1892, the company launched Asahi Beer, named after the rising sun, and in 1900 it introduced Japan's first bottled draft beer while winning the gold medal at the Paris Expo. In 1906, the brewery merged into Dai Nippon Brewery, only to be re-established as Asahi Breweries in 1949 following post-war economic decentralisation. The watershed moment came in 1987 with the launch of Asahi Super Dry—Japan's first dry beer—which revolutionised the industry and propelled the brand to market leadership by 1998. In 2011, the company transitioned to a pure holding structure and was renamed Asahi Group Holdings. Global expansion accelerated through acquisitions including Nikka Whisky, Peroni, Grolsch, and Pilsner Urquell.

The brand's core products are alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, spirits, soft drinks, and food products. Its portfolio spans Asahi Super Dry, Mitsuya Cider, Calpis, and a vast array of international beer brands, alongside ready-to-drink cocktails and functional beverages.

From its founding promise of quality and innovation, Asahi has evolved into a global beverage leader. In 2024, the group introduced the new corporate statement "Make the world shine" alongside the Sunrise Arc visual identity, reflecting a century-long commitment to brightening the world through exceptional products and sustainable growth.
