India Cements Limited was founded in February 1946 by S. N. N. Sankaralinga Iyer and T. S. Narayanaswami in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company commissioned its first cement plant at Sankarnagar in 1949, beginning a journey that would make it one of South India's largest cement producers. Over the decades, it expanded through strategic acquisitions including Coromandel Cement in 1990 and Raasi Cement in 1998, growing to eight integrated plants and two grinding units across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
