Golub Corporation traces its origins to 1932, when brothers Bernard "Ben" and William "Bill" Golub, alongside Joseph Grosberg, opened the Public Service Market in Green Island, New York. A year later, the first Central Market opened near Schenectady's Central Park, pioneering self-service supermarket retail in the region. The company rebranded as Price Chopper in 1973 and later introduced the Market 32 banner in 2014, a nod to its founding year and a modernized concept emphasizing freshness, health, and wellness. The brand's slogans evolved from the community-centric "We're not just in your neighborhood. We're your neighbor" to the value-driven "That's Price Chopper value" and the quality-focused "Best in Fresh and Low Prices." Core offerings span groceries, fresh produce, prepared meals, and the PICS private-label line. In 2021, Golub Corporation merged with Tops Markets to form Northeast Grocery, creating a regional powerhouse with nearly 300 stores across six states. Today, the fourth-generation family-led enterprise remains one of the largest independent grocers in the Northeast.
