Dreher Brewery traces its origins to 1854, when Peter Schmidt founded the Kőbányai Serfőző Társaság in Budapest's Kőbánya district. In 1862, Austrian brewing pioneer Anton Dreher—creator of the Vienna lager style and known as "the Beer King"—acquired the brewery, transforming it into Hungary's largest beer producer. The Dreher family managed the business for three generations, earning gold medals at world expositions, before the brewery was nationalised in 1948. After privatisation in 1991, it was acquired by South African Breweries in 1993, became part of SABMiller in 2002, and was sold to Asahi Breweries in 2016 as part of regulatory divestitures.

The brand's core products are lager beers and brewing innovations, including Dreher Gold, Arany Ászok, and Kőbányai Világos pilsener-style lagers, alongside Dreher Bak dark beer and alcohol-free varieties. In 2024, the company launched the ANTL microbrewery and Viper hard seltzers, blending heritage with contemporary trends.

From Anton Dreher's pioneering Vienna lager to Asahi's modern "Kando" philosophy of delivering happiness and innovation, the brewery has evolved into Hungary's market leader with a 30% share. Celebrating its 170th anniversary in 2024, Dreher continues to embody the legacy of Central European brewing excellence.
