Surinaamse Brouwerij traces its origins to around 1950, when brothers Piet and Arthur Dumoleyn from the Dutch province of Zeeland decided to continue their brewing business in Suriname. At the time, the territory had no local brewery, and the brothers saw an opportunity to produce beer more affordably than imports. In October 1955, the brewery was officially opened by His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and by the end of December 1955, the first Parbo Bier was produced. Amstel Brouwerij was a founding shareholder, and when Heineken acquired Amstel in 1968, the global brewing giant became the majority owner. Today, Surinaamse Brouwerij remains Suriname's only brewery, commanding 90–95% of the domestic beer market.

The brand's core products are beer and beverage solutions, including pilsener-style lagers, radlers, chillers, and soda water. Its portfolio also encompasses imported and distributed brands such as premium lagers, non-alcoholic beverages, and spirits, serving both local consumers and export markets across the Caribbean and Europe.

Guided by the mission "Wij zijn de trots van Suriname en maken van élk drinkmoment een plezier" ("We are the pride of Suriname and make every drinking moment a pleasure"), Surinaamse Brouwerij has evolved from a colonial-era startup into a national institution. Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2025, the brewery continues to embody Surinamese pride while advancing sustainability and responsible consumption as part of the Heineken global network.
