Bombardier was founded in 1942 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier in Valcourt, Quebec, as L'Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée, producing tracked vehicles for snow-covered terrain. The 1959 launch of the Ski-Doo snowmobile transformed the company into a recreational powerhouse. In 1967, it became Bombardier Limited, and in 1969 it went public. The company entered rail transportation in 1970 and aerospace in 1986 with the acquisition of Canadair, followed by Short Brothers, Learjet, and de Havilland Canada. After divesting its recreational products in 2003, rail business in 2021, and regional aircraft programs, Bombardier emerged as a focused business aviation leader.

The brand's core products are business jets and aviation services, including the Challenger and Global aircraft families, alongside aftermarket support and defence solutions. Previously, its portfolio encompassed regional aircraft, commercial airliners, rail transit systems, and recreational vehicles.

From its early slogan "We Move People," Bombardier adopted "The Evolution of Mobility" in 2012. In 2024, the brand unveiled a new identity centred on pure-play business aviation, embracing the philosophy of "At Your Altitude" and the value proposition "where heart meets mastery," celebrating craftsmanship and an intimate connection with customers worldwide.
