FiOS1 was a news-based pay television network owned by Verizon Communications, carried exclusively on the Verizon Fios cable system. The channel launched on March 30, 2007, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, marking Verizon's first venture into operating its own television channel. Core offerings centred on hyperlocal news coverage, including weather, traffic, sports, and community features, with dedicated regional feeds for Long Island, New Jersey, and the Lower Hudson Valley. News programming was produced by RNN (RNN News LLC) of Rye Brook, New York, which employed approximately 150 staff across the three regional operations. The Long Island and New Jersey feeds debuted in 2009, followed by the Lower Hudson Valley feed in 2014. FiOS1 distinguished itself as a direct competitor to established cable news providers such as Cablevision's News 12, offering Fios subscribers dedicated local coverage unavailable on other platforms. However, in August 2019, Verizon announced it would not renew its contract with RNN, and the network ceased operations on November 13, 2019, after a decade of service. Today, its legacy continues through the News 12 channels that replaced it on the Fios lineup.
