Steak Sauce) is an American condiment brand with origins dating to the 1820s, when British chef Henderson William Brand—personal cook to King George IV—created a distinctive sauce of tomatoes, vinegar, raisins, and spices. Legend holds that the monarch declared it "A1," denoting first-class quality. Commercialised in 1862 as Brand’s International Sauce, it was introduced to the United States in 1895 by G.F. Heublein & Brothers. In the 1960s, amid rising beef consumption, the brand was renamed A.1. Steak Sauce and marketed exclusively for steak. In 2014, Kraft-Heinz removed "Steak" from the name, reverting to A.1. Sauce and repositioning it as a versatile condiment for pork, chicken, fish, and vegetables.
