Established in 2009 and officially launched on December 7, 2010—the first day of the Islamic New Year 1432—by then-Prime Minister Najib Razak, it is managed by AlHijrah Media Corporation under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). The name "AlHijrah" draws from the Prophet Muhammad's migration from Mecca to Medina, symbolising a transformative journey toward goodness. Its enduring slogan, "Everything Begins Here," reflects a philosophy of renewal and education. Broadcasting 18 hours daily in Malay, Arabic, and English, the channel offers diverse programming spanning religious education, children's content, Islamic dramas, and live coverage of global Islamic events.
