FX (originally stylised as fX) was launched on 1 June 1994 by Fox Television in New York City, broadcasting live from a Manhattan "apartment" as one of the first large-scale interactive television experiments. In 1997, the channel was relaunched as FX: Fox Gone Cable, shifting toward male-skewing entertainment and Fox show reruns.
