Greyhound Lines, Inc., usually shortened to Greyhound, is an American intercity bus common carrier serving over 3,800 destinations across North America. Founded in 1914 by Swedish immigrant Carl Eric Wickman in Hibbing, Minnesota, the company began when Wickman, unable to sell a seven-passenger Hupmobile, used it to transport iron ore miners between Hibbing and Alice for 15 cents a ride. The company grew through aggressive acquisition of competitors, becoming the largest intercity bus operator in the United States. Core offerings today encompass scheduled passenger services, charter bus operations, Greyhound Package Express, and cross-border services through joint ventures with Mexican transportation companies. The fleet of approximately 2,400 buses carries over 22.5 million passengers annually across more than 75,000 miles of routes. Brand messaging has evolved from the 1956 advertising campaign reminder that It's such a comfort to travel by bus—and leave the driving to us to the iconic signature slogan Go Greyhound...and leave the driving to us, which became embedded in American popular culture. Today, Greyhound is owned by Flix SE, which acquired the company in 2021, and continues to operate as the largest intercity bus transportation provider in North America from its headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
